Clark/Bruce, first impressions
Laying eyes on each other for the first time, weighing each other up, suspicion and lust.

Re: Clark/Bruce, first impressions
2/2 - Clark

Clark’s heard about this Batman, of course. A figure shrouded in the dark shadows of Gotham City, three mysteries for every fact known about him, and an abundance of rumours to make up for the lack of knowledge. Nobody knows if he’s human, or what – if he has any – his powers are, or even his motives for fighting crime.

The first glimpse of the Bat that Clark gets in person is a man knocked to the ground as he speeds past, sending the man in green flying. When he’s done with him, he flies back, and...

Batman’s sprawled on his hands and knees, his black cape half-draped over him. Clark appraises him hungrily, taking in the strong figure with powerful muscles and the rough snarl that he emits at the sight of Superman.

He just looks like a normal human. It’s sort of hilarious, because what kind of man goes around dressed up in a bat suit? But for some reason, Clark feels like he shouldn’t underestimate him. He’s suspicious of the man, and strangely aware of the threat that he seems to exude. The power that simply radiates off him, and Clark shudders minutely from the strange rush of heat when Batman turns those white lenses on him.

He’s going to enjoy this fight. Clark will go easy on him, pretend that he’ll actually feel his punches and kicks, then savour the mixed look of surprise and fierce determination he knows he’ll see on Batman’s face.

Re: Clark/Bruce, first impressions
Worthy of Loeb's most OTP-esque Superman/Batman narrative. Bruce's determined denial fills me with glee.

Great job!

Re: Clark/Bruce, first impressions
1/2 - Bruce

Superman. He’s never met him before, but he’s heard all the stories, done all the research. He knows his powers – at least, the ones that he’s displayed so far – and he knows that he’s dangerous. Very dangerous. Super strength, super speed, flight, heat vision, invulnerability.

Bruce wonders if he’s zapped him with those glowing eyes, because he’s never felt this sort this heat before. It’s the only explanation. There’s nothing else like it.

Superman’s not human. He’s from another planet. And as Bruce stares up at Superman, he doesn’t doubt it for a moment. He’s...otherworldly. The power practically radiates off him. It’s in his stance, how he’s floating an inch above the ground, in the crimson glow of his eyes, in the cocky arrogance of his voice.

Bruce knows not to take the element of surprise for granted. He has to tread carefully, evaluate and not underestimate. This Superman is an alien, something to be wary of. Bruce is already planning in his head. He’ll pretend he’s weaker than he is, hold back while he evaluates the alien’s power from first-hand experience, and then show him what he’s got. Let Superman pin him before Bruce throws him, maybe take the opportunity while he’s underneath him to see what that strange armour he’s wearing is like. For the purposes of determining Superman’s weaknesses, of course.

He’s looking forward to this fight.
