Filled - Flying in Hong Kong
The buildings are different: different shapes, which throws off her grappling and makes her long for the old stone of Gotham; different heights, making her almost feel like she's in Metropolis where grappling is next to impossible; different positioning, foreign and strange and off.

In Gotham, the playing field is equal when they play this game. If it's just the two of them or if the boys decide to join in, it doesn't matter because it's home and familiar and grappling through Gotham is almost like flying.

In Hong Kong, it's grappling and Stephanie just wants to fly again. She wants the weight of the grapple to disappear in her hand and her cape to billow out like the wings it mimics; she wants to be Batgirl, not Stephanie Brown.

It looks so easy when Cass does it; as natural here as in their home town. Cass swings past and her ragged cape twists around her making the Black Bat look like a figment of a demon, or something not entirely of the waking world.

Sometimes Stephanie thinks she isn't. Even more silent than Batman, and merry with a mischievousness that too much time with Dick had wrought, she seemed to know watt would happen before it did.

Stephanie's seen her stand over a conquered enemy, triumphant, like a god in the old legends; but then she'd turn around and her lips were curve, ever so slightly, into a smile and she'd be gone, disappeared into the night.

Stephanie admires that in her, and swinging behind her it is easy to see why the people of this city fear her as Gotham fears Batman.

They drop to one of the few low roofs in the area and only the soft thrum of the returning grapple lines is heard for a moment.

Cass is at one edge, looking out over her city, illuminated by neon light and pale moonlight. Stephanie leans against the other edge and watches her. "What are we doing tonight? Patrol? Surveillance?"

Cass shakes her head.

Cass unfolds from her position. It's the only way to describe how gracefully she stands from her half crouched stance. Stephanie knows no one else that has that same grace. The same grace that makes Cass glide when she walks, strengthening the image of her being otherworldly.

Cass smiles when she stops in front of Stephanie. "You are tired."

Her hand is light and soft on Stephanie's shoulder. When Stephanie tips her head to trap it between shoulder and head, it twists to cup the visible skin of her cheek. "I'm always tired. It's part of being a Bat."

"No." Cass' fingers stroke over her temple. "Tired of fighting."

"That too." The edge of the building is hard under Stephanie's hands and Cass' fingers are warm on her cheek. She smiles. "That's why I'm vacationing in Hong Kong. With you."

Cass' smile widens, looking almost demonic on the Black Bat. "Then tonight, we will play."

"Play what?" Stephanie lets go of the roof and rests them on Cass' hips.

Cass leans down and kisses her. "Tag."

Then she's gone, a black demon flying away through the lights of her city, inviting Stephanie to follow.

Re: Filled - Flying in Hong Kong
Absolutely amazing, and first fill here, yay! Loved the way Steph sees Cass, the picture you painted of her through Steph's eyes.
