I so completely agree with you on loving Steph as Batgirl in a passionate and intense way. That was just such an incredible run of comics and I'm so sad it's over.

I finished the last issue of that run and I am not ashamed to say that I actually literally wept, tears running down my face, at the idea that Steph was going to cease to be Batgirl. Seriously, I love Clark and Bruce (haha, you might have noticed) but I never felt the kind of passionate protectiveness toward them that I do toward Steph...maybe because they're never going to have someone come along and say "Oh, you know all those superhero jobs you think you held? Well, you were never any of them, you were ALWAYS just a two-bit vigilante in purple." *sobs*

(And I'm curious, have you read The Authority, or just the reboot Stormwatch?)

I read the first volume of Ellis's run on Authority and liked it a lot, but I heard it kind of goes off the rails later and wasn't sure how much further to venture, so I stopped there. I've been enjoying seeing their relationship develop in the new Stormwatch but am in anguish at the idea of a new writer taking over just as they're starting to flirt!

Yay, let's be friends and I'll encourage you to keep caught up so we can squee together! :D

the authority - oh my gosh, whoever told you that was clearly crazy. there's one lull where the writing is still good but the art is terrible (oh gosh and it's a famous comic artist too, whoops, but really, he made everything look like shit for a while. literal shit.) BUT that's only for a small time, and then there are amazing artists, and to my mind the story just kept growing and growing and was constantly satisfying and interesting. with the knowledge that the wildstorm world, particularly in the authority, has only a passing and flirtatious relationship with reality.

also? midnighter's solo run is amazing. it contains my favorite two single issues in the world, because the storytelling is just. mindblowing, sometimes. and the art is great and everything that is charming and wonderful about midnighter is allowed to run free and unfettered and rampant. rampant everywhere. oh, midnighter.

.....i'm not sure if i had anything i meant to add to this, since it's been sitting around in my browser for a while, whoops.

LOL, okay, the Quitely art does kind of throw me off as well, I confess it! My feelings for Quitely are so conflicted--I can tell he's great and he does layouts so amazingly, but his character designs sometimes leave me so totally cold. Oh, the lumpiness. The chins!

But oooh, okay, consider my interest piqued for the rest of the Wildstorm run. I'll have to check it out!
